Prosper Pièrre-Louis 1947-1997
is a Haitian born in Bainet, near Jacmel.
One of the main contributors of the Saint Soleil art movement.
He was one of the Cinq Soleil (five Suns: Levoy Exil, Louisiane Saint Fleurant, Dieuseul Paul, Denis Smith) art movement. These artists had branched out of the Saint Soleil movement. He died in 1997 of an asthma attack.
Étienne Chavannes
1939 –2018
Was born in Cap Haïtien, Haiti. He had Philomé Obin as a mentor. He then joined the Centre D'Art in 1971. He was under the wing of Nehemy Jean who was another leading artist in Haiti.
Chavannes often painted religious or crowded scenes. His work was exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum in New York.
